    This is for many reasons, such as being unable to afford healthy food, poor living conditions, the inability to afford hygiene productssignificant health issues: mortality in childhood & acute and long-term illness.

    Children living in poverty are 72% more likely than other children to be diagnosed with a long-term illness
    This demonstrates the significant extent to which health inequalities exist among children who live in deprived areas simply because of their living and financial situation.

    Infant Mortality rates are also far higher among families who live in poverty.
    In areas of deprivation issues such as smoking and teenage pregnancy can be rife due to poor eduction and lack of support networks and healthcare access during pregnancy.

    In Scotland, by 2016-18 infant mortality rates in the most deprived areas were 2.6 times the rate in the least deprived areas.  
    This showcases the detrimental effects of deprivation on infancy, demonstrating the extent of social inequality on children.
