  • Health
One way in which some Ethnic Minority groups experience social inequality in the USA is through inequalities in health.
A significant proportion of Hispanic Americans have crossed the Mexican Border illegally and are undocumented, therefore, language barriers and racial profiling from health professionals often prevents them from accessing basic medical care.
  • Health - Example & Analysis
In 2023, approximately 19% of the Hispanic population in the USA did not have health insurance, compared to only 5.8% of the white population.
This highlights that Ethnic Minority groups are often unable to access proper healthcare as they are almost 4x more likely to be uninsured, limiting their ability to afford and receive the medical care they have the right to, particularly in comparison to their white counterparts, evidencing the inequality they experience.
  • Health - 2
Furthermore, Black and Hispanic Americans are more likely to live in poverty, meaning that the areas they live in are more subject to having a lack of health care access due to closures and shortages of essential services in areas of deprivation.
  • Health - Example and Analysis 2
In cities across the U.S.major retail pharmacies have closed hundreds of stores over the past few years and independents can’t always afford to stay open. MAC Pharmacy is the only one serving about 20,000 people in a majority Black post code in Cleveland.
This demonstrates the effects that deprivation and economic inequality have on Ethnic Minority access to healthcare, with the area they live in preventing them from receiving the on-sight care and medication that pharmacies provide.
  • Health - Evaluation
Therefore, it is clear that the effects on that inequality has on Ethnic Minorities - particularly Black and Hispanic Americans - is detrimental to their lives, as it limits their quality of life by preventing equal access to healthcare services and opportunities.
