  • Narrative Writing
    focuses on telling a fictional story –one that is made up –or a real-life story where the author follows a plot structure.
  • Narrative Writing is also often anecdotal, experiential, and personal
  • 4 Main Purposes of Narrative Writing:?It narrates.

    ? It criticizes.
    ? It entertains.
  • Setting: the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place
  • Theme: the subject of a talk, piece of writing, exhibition, etc.; a topic
  • mood: the emotional state of a person, especially one's feelings about oneself
  • Characters: The people in the story, who are the main characters. They are the ones who are the focus of the story.
  • An antagonist is a character in a story who is presented as the main enemy 
  • A protagonist is the main character of a story. The protagonist makes key decisions that affect the plot, primarily influencing the story and propelling it forward, and is often the character who faces the most significant obstacles.
  • Plot: the most important part of a story. it is the sequence of events it includes a climax
  • climax: the final stage of a play, where the main characters are revealed and the play ends
  • Elements of an effective narrative essay
    • THESIS that sets up the action in the introduction
    • TRANSITION SENTENCES that connect events and guide the reader to follow the story
    • CONCLUSION that ends the story action and provides a moral, prediction, or revelation
  • A persuasive essay presents your personal point of view in a certain topic or issue. In this manner of writing, you are required to organize your arguments and provide explanation which may be accompanied by evidence so that the readers will be persuaded in believing that your opinion is acceptable.
  • Persuasive essay focuses mainly on your own perspective about the topic, with your emotions entangled on
  • Argumentative essay may present not just a one-sided argumentation but also the opposing
    Viewpoints in order to create fair counterclaims.
     
  • Goal of argumentative writing:
    • To get reader to acknowledge that your side is valid and deserves consideration as another point of view.
  • Goal of persuasive writing:
    • To get reader to agree with you/your point of view on a particular topic.
