Christian sacred text believed by Christians to be revealed and inspired by God, made up of the Old Testaments.
What is Revelation?
God making himself known to humankind; e.g through the Bible.
What is Reason?
The process of logical thought. The ability to think in a logical way. To form judgement and options through rational and evidence based consideration.
What is Judgement?
The belief that God will judge whether or not humans are worthy of reward or punishment, e.g to enter the Kingdom of Heaven or Hell.
What is Free Will?
The ability to make choices particularly moral choices, voluntarily and independantly. The belief that nothing is predetermined.
What is Heaven?
A 'place' or 'state' in the afterlife where those who have accepted God's grace and forgiveness in this life will enjoy an eternal existence in God's presence in the next life.
What is Hell?
A 'place' or 'state' of punishment in the afterlife for those who through their own free will, reject God's grace and forgiveness and will have chosen to live eternally outside of God's presence.
What is meant by the term Baptism?
The Christian religious rite of sprinkling water onto a person's forehead or immersing them in water, symbolising purification and commitment to the Christian Church and Jesus. An example of a ritual performed at a Baptism is the Priest will give a reading from the Bible.
What is Eucharist?
The Christian ceremony or a sacramet (Roman Catholics) that remembers and commemorates the LastSupper. During Eucharist, bread and wine are commemorated/declared to be or represent the body and blood of Christ. E.g The wine represents Jesus'blood.
What is confirmation?
Confirmation is when Christians confirm the promises that their parents and god-parents made for them when they were babies. E.g They accept the Holy Spirit in their lives.
What are marriage symbols?
A symbol is a picture or action that represents something. Signs in marriage include the vows, rings and the blessing e.g The ring is a token of their promise to eachother. This symbolises that like a circular ring their love will never end.
What are vows?
A vow is a promise or commitment. At a Church wedding, Christians will make vows to each other e.g for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer.
What is Pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a journey that has religious or spiritual significance. The journey is usually taken to an importantreligiousplace e.g The Bible mentions stories about the life of Jesus, including Jerusalem.
