Hell

Cards (8)

  • B-Some Christians believe that Hell, is a physical place of suffering. whereas some believe it is a spiritual state of being seperated from God for eternity.
E- Revelation says "The fiery lake of burning sulphur"
E- Therefore, Hell is an eternal place of pain and a punishment for wickedness.
  • B- The Bible teaches that hell is where unrepentant sinners go after death if they have not accepted God's offer of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus.
E-"They will go away to eternal punishment"
E- Therefore, those who have not helped people will have eternal suffering in Hell
  • B- Going against God is known as Sin
E- The Catechism states "A wilful turning away from God"
E- God says no one predestines no one to Hell, it requires a wilful turning away from God. He doesn't want anyone to go to Hell as he is omnibenevolent and God will make sure do to everything he can for you to not go there.
  • God is omnibenevolent he doesn't want people to go to Hell. This emphasises the key idea in Christianity of forgiveness and that God will forgive you. However, if you are unrepentant and do not want to accept salvation, hell is where Christians believe you will go
  • Some Christians believe that Hell is a physical place, whereas some believe it is a spiritual state of being seperated from God for eternity. Being seperated from God is something Christians are going to want to avoid but if someone is an atheist they are not going to be scared of hell as they do not believe in God, so being seperated from God for eternity is going to be unnoticable.
  • B- Some Christians believe that nobody will go to Hell, because God forgives everybody. The belief that everybody will be saved is universalism (universal salvation).
E- Pope John Paul II says Christians believe that "Hell is a place but nobody is there"
E-Therefore, it exists but because God is all about forgiving and omnibenevolent. As well as, because Jesus died for everybody, nobody actually goes to Hell. Some people in the Catholic Church believe you go to purgatory which is a place where their souls are clensed and where they are prepared to enter Heaven.
  • People will put their faith in Jesus that he will save them. His death and resurrection is all about the atonement of sins and the gift of eternal life. This means Christians will follow Jesus' teachings to avoid going to hell emphasised by the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats.
  • May be influenced to evangelise to save others to follow these teachings because you don't want them to end up in hell facing this eternal punishment.
