A collection of internal and external organs in both males and females that work together for the purpose of procreating.
All living things reproduce
Male Gametes
Sperm made into the testes of a male when sexually mature
Female Gametes
Ova (eggs, female sex cells) are made in the ovaries. Females are born with about 400000
Sexual Reproduction
Creates offspring by joining male and female reproductive cells that are made in the reproductive organs
Reproductive Systems
They bring male and female gametes together, mixing the genetic material from the nucleus of each parent resulting in the formation of a zygote.
Fertilisation
Joining of Sperm and Eggs
Internal Fertilisation
Sperm is introduced into the female by a process called copulation. Mainly done by animals that live and breed on land. Young develop safely in the female.
External Fertilisation
In some animals, especially those that live or breed in water fertilisation occurs outside the female's body.
Asexual Reproduction
Does not entail the union of sex cells or gametes, meaning the organism can reproduce without a mate. It decreases genetic variability (which is bad), however, there is no need to find a male, and numerous clone offsprings are produced quickly.
