Its severity is categorized into 3
mild, moderate, severe MAS
Meconium
is formed by
accumulating fetal cellular debris, bile, and mucus.
Aspirations of these materials causes airway obstruction and triggers inflammatory
changes leading to the neonate to
develop respiratory distress.
Meconium Aspiration Syndrome is due to the
aspiration
of
Meconium stained amniotic fluid
and
MSAF
is more common in
post-term Newborns.

umbilical catheter
oxygen therapy
surfactant therapy
IVF
Nursing interventions:
Suctioning the upper airways
assess strength of peripheral pulses, rr, skin color temp and moisture
