The Paris Summit

• The Paris Summit was to be held in May 1960 between the leaders of the USSR, France , USA and Britain
• The Summit was suppose to be a major step forward in East-West realtions following Khrushchev successful visit to the USA in 1959
• One of the main subject discussed there was the future of Germany
• One of the main subject discussed there was nuclear arms reduction
• Despite a desire for better East-West relations the Summit faced problems as teh Western powers and the USSR were unlikely to agree about a possible reunific tion of Germany
• Despite a desire for better East-West relations the Summit faced problems as Khrushchev was under severe critisism from the Chinese and some of his own generals for holding a discussion with the West
