• It happened in 1961
• June : Vienna Summit where Khrushchev attempted to put pressure on the young and inexperience new US president , John F. Kennedy. Again demands withdrawal of Western powers's occupying forces from West Berlin within six month
• June : Vienna Summit wher Kennedy replied to Khrushchev demands by saying that the USA will proteect the freedom of West Berlin
• 17th July 1961 : The Western power reject Khrushchev Vienna's demands
• 23rd July 1961 : The flow of refugees from East to West Germany has reached 1000 a day . The East German government attempts to stem it by introducing travel restrictions
• 25 th July : Kennedy repeats the USA's support for West Berlin
• 25th July 1961 : Kennedy announces an increase in the arm spending
