Situation Ethics

• Relative morality - The view that different situations require different actions.
• This approach is teleological as it focuses on the purpose and reasons rather than the actions themselves to decide whether it is right or wrong.
• The general rule of situation ethics is that the correct action should be the most loving action.
• Positives of situation ethics: Individuals have control over their own lives and decision making; each situation is different so deserves consideration.
• Negatives of situation ethics: Each person's definition of love is different so cannot ensure most loving action is always carried out; individuals can justify any action; there is no clear guidance for any situation.
