• T v DPP - momentary unconsciousness is classed as ABH
• dpp v SMITH - cutting hair can be ABH
• chan-fook - psychiatric injury is classed as ABH
• tuberville - no clear threat then no assault
• mens rea is to have direct or oblique intention (MOHAN) or to be subjectively reckless (CUNNINGHAM) as to assault or battery
