  • Crisis - the perception or experiencing of an event or situation as an intolerable difficulty that exceeds the person's current resources and coping mechanisms
  • Maturational crisis - Type of crisis. periods in life which entail changes in social roles, biological and social pressures. (marriage, retirement, adolescence)
  • Situational Crisis - Type of crisis. A specific external event that disrupts the internal psychological balance of the individual (divorce, illness, accidental pregnancy, pollution)
  • Catastrophic Crisis - accidental, unusual, unexpected. Causes severe stress and requires maximal coping abilities (earthquake, flood, kidnapping)
  • Disaster - serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society causing widespread losses which exceed the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources
  • Disaster - a natural or human-caused occurrence that causes human suffering

    Cognitive - distractibility, memory loss, flashbacks, etc.

    Behavioral - clinging, isolation, re-enactments of the trauma, thrill seeking behavior, insomnia

    Physical- Insomnia, loss of appetite, headaches, shock symptoms

    Affective - depression, anxiety, numbness, constricted, global pessimism
  • Anxiety - excessive worrying about a variety of topics, events, or activities
  • Solastalgia - form of mental distress caused by enviornmental change
