  • What is natural selection?
The reproductive success of a species chance of surviving. Creating a large gene pool and high allele frequency. Increasing genetic diversity and continues the thriving of a species.
  • What is genetic diversity?

The number of individual alleles in a population
  • What is a population?

A group of individuals of the same species, living in the same space and can interbreed.
  • What is ecological fitness?
The greater the diversity, the higher the chance a species will survive against environmental change
  • Who contributed to evolutional theories?
    Darwin, Lemarck and Wallace
  • How can diversity increase?
    Through mutations or migration
  • What is gene flow?
The increase of diversity through migration
  • What is genetic bottleneck?
Dramatic reduce in a species population. Done through disease, predators or soil pH change. By decreasing the population, the gene pool decrease and so does reproductive success. The population continues to reproduce.
  • What is an example of a genetic bottleneck species?
Bison - come from 12 individuals
  • What is the founder affect?
An individual with a rare allele moves to a new colony and reproduces. Making the once rare allele common. Gene pool is still reduced due to only 1 allele becoming common.
  • What is an example of a founder effect population?
    The Amish in Switzerland.
