ACCOMMODATION THEORY

• developed by Howard Giles (1975) to explain why people change their speech when talking to different people
• what is convergence?

  moving towards each others language and speech style
• what is divergence?

  moving away from the other persons accent and strengthens their own accent to put extra distance between them

  Politician - Osborne was talking to Morrisons workers

  he was saying "kinda" and "betta"
