  • Statuatory Interpretation
    > acts (clauses/statutes) are created by Parliament. When acts are challenged in a court of law, its the role of the judiciary (judges) to interpret the wording of the statute.
  • Statuatory Interpretion is about finding the meaning of words in acts of Parliament and then applying the statute to a case in court in a way which gives effect to Parliament's intention.
  • A statute is a written law and therefore subject to interpretation. Three ways of doing this are:
    • The literal rule
    • The mischief rule
    • The golden rule
