Rational Ideology

Cards (3)

  • The idea that the conscience controls behaviour.
  • The conscience uses guilt, anxiety and worry to stop people from committing deviant behaviour. An individuals’ conscience decides to conform: it believes its rational to conform and that everyone else should conform.
  • This links to Freud’s psychodynamic theory of superego :a form of self-control. The superego derives from the oedipal / electra conflict and acts as an 'internalised parent’ which is the source of all guilt.
