Hirschi believes there are bonds in society that keep us from deviating. He believes we have animalistic impulses since we capable of committing crimes to those we don’t bond with.
If bonds are weak or broken we are more likely to deviate and if bonds are strong we are more likely to conform.

Commitment - committed to a normal lifestyle so can’t risk committing crimes
Involvement - means you have less time to commit crime
