  • Hirschi believes there are bonds in society that keep us from deviating. He believes we have animalistic impulses since we capable of committing crimes to those we don’t bond with.
  • If bonds are weak or broken we are more likely to deviate and if bonds are strong we are more likely to conform.

    • Attachment - exhibit more care and respect if attached
    • Commitment - committed to a normal lifestyle so can’t risk committing crimes
    • Involvement - means you have less time to commit crime
    • Beliefs - we are socialised to obey
