Chi-squared test for age&sleep
• P: I used the chi-squared test to analyse the relationship between age group and sleep duration in my correlational research
• E: this test was appropriate because both variables - age and sleep duration - were categorical. Age was grouped as “younger” (16-19) and ”older” (20-75), while sleep was classified as “<7 hours” or ”>7 hours”. The data were independent, as each participant‘s sleep report was not influenced by others. I used a 2x2 contingency table to compare observed frequencies in each category and calculated expected frequencies to determine if there was a significant association
• E: the test produced a chi-squared value of 0.188, which below the critical value of 2.71 at p<0.05 (df = 1). this means I failed to reject the null hypothesis, suggesting no significant correlation between age and sleep duration
• L: therefore, the chi-squared test was most appropriate and statistically valid
