• Phylum: Neocallimastigomycota - anaerobic zoosporic fungi that grow in the digestive tracts of herbivores
• Fibrolytic - metabolism is fueled by the decomposition of polysaccharides in the fiber of the host diet to produce sugars
• Neocallimastigomycetes lack mitochondria, but they have hydrogenosomes
• Hydrogenosome - primitive type of mitochondria which is capable of converting sugars
