  • Intended communication
    Plan to express your ideas or convey information to people of higher rank or social standing and individuals older than you, such as your school principal, teachers, and parents
  • Unintended communication
    Takes place in situations where you unconsciously send messages to your listener or unintentionally utter unpleasant statements out of anger or frustration
  • Communication terms
    • SPEAKER: The source of the information or message
    • MESSAGE: The information, ideas, or thoughts conveyed by the speaker in words/actions
    • ENCODING: The process of converting the message into words, actions, or other forms
    • CHANNEL: The means to deliver a message (face-to-face, telephone calls, emails, memos, etc.)
    • DECODING: The process of interpreting an encoded message
    • RECEIVER: The recipient of the message
    • FEEDBACK: The reactions or responses of the receiver to the message of the sender
    • CONTEXT: The situation or environment where communication takes place
    • BARRIERS: The factors that affect the flow of communication in any organization
  • Process of Communication
    1. The speaker generates an idea
    2. The speaker encodes an idea or converts the idea into words or actions
    3. The speaker transmits or sends out a message
    4. The receiver gets the message
    5. The receiver decodes or interprets the message based on the context
    6. The receiver sends or provides feedback
  • Example
    • Daphne loves Rico as a friend
    • She thinks of how to tell him using their native language
    • She tells him, "Rico, mahal kita bilang kaibigan"
    • Rico hears what Daphne says
    • He tries to analyze what she means, and he is heartbroken
    • He frowns and does not say something because he is in pain
  • Communication is a complex process that requires you to: Know your audience, Determine your purpose, Identify your topic, Expect objections, Establish credibility, Be objective and clear with your message, Work on the audience, Showing no emotion, Seek feedback
