Prokaryotic cells

Cards (8)

  • Structure of prokaryotic cells:
Cell membrane, slime capsule, plasmids, genetic material, cytoplasm, cell wall, flagella
  • Prokaryotes are single-celled organisms whose cells lack a nucleus and other organelles.
  • Bacteria are prokaryotic cells.
  • Plasmids: Small rings of DNA
  • Genetic material: A single DNA loop not enclosed in a nucleus and found free in the cytoplasm
  • Slime capsule: Around the outside of the cell wall to protect the cell, help cells to cling together and prevents them from drying out.
  • Flagella: A long protein strand allowing bacteria to move around.
  • Prokaryotic cells are extremely small compared to eukaryotic cells.
