types of housing

Cards (4)

  • Increased house prices in rural areas due to counter-urbanisation means that local people can't afford to stay in their village, and have to move to the outskirts.
  • Infill occurs due to the increase in middle class population, as more houses are needed, so they are built in gaps between existing houses in the village.
  • Fewer houses are built, yet demand is increasing due to counter urbanisation, so house prices increase, so locals can't afford to buy in the actual village, and are forced into the surrounding areas.
  • In LICs and MICs, the type of housing changes as the population grows because the land is being divided for each generation, resulting in smaller and smaller plots of land for farming e.g. in Bangladesh, the average farm is less then half a hectare, but minimum one hectare is needed for farming.
