Green belts are areas of rural land around urban areas with planning restrictions to stop the expansion of towns into the countryside due to counter urbanisation.
The use of land changes in LICs and MICs:
poorer farms are pushed onto poor quality soil as larger farms replace them
mechanisation leaves workers unemployed e.g. Haciendas, Ecuador
