Absolute location describes the location of a place based on a fixed point on earth. The most common way is to identify the location using
coordinates such as latitude (=) and longitude (|).
Relative Location refers to how far away or close something is from another object.
Latitudes and Parallels:
The equator is defined as 0° latitude. Latitude is defined as the distance measured in degrees north and south of the equator. Parallels are imaginary lines representing latitudes.
Equator is the imaginary horizontal ring that divides the Earth into two equal hemispheres:
northern and southern hemispheres.
Longitudes and Meridians:
Earth is divided vertically by lines of longitudes measured in degrees. Meridians are the imaginary lines representing longitudes.
Prime Meridian:
The line running through Greenwich, England is called the prime meridian. It separates the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
International Date Line:
The line exactly the opposite of the prime meridian corresponds to 180°.
