  • Absolute location describes the location of a place based on a fixed point on earth. The most common way is to identify the location using
    coordinates such as latitude (=) and longitude (|).
  • Relative Location refers to how far away or close something is from another object.
  • Latitudes and Parallels:
    The equator is defined as latitude. Latitude is defined as the distance measured in degrees north and south of the equator. Parallels are imaginary lines representing latitudes.
  • Equator is the imaginary horizontal ring that divides the Earth into two equal hemispheres:
    northern and southern hemispheres.
  • Longitudes and Meridians:
    Earth is divided vertically by lines of longitudes measured in degrees. Meridians are the imaginary lines representing longitudes.
  • Prime Meridian:
    The line running through Greenwich, England is called the prime meridian. It separates the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
  • International Date Line:
    The line exactly the opposite of the prime meridian corresponds to 180°.
  • As the Prime Meridian, Meridian, and IDL cross/intersecr; they form a grid system.
