• Sexual Reproduction: The fusion of male and female gametes to form a zygote
• Two parents are involved and their genetic material combines in Sexual Reproduction
• Gametes (sex cells- sperm and ova) are produced by meiosis
• The offspring are not identical to each other, or to either of the parents
• Fertilisation takes place, gametes fuse to form a zygote
• Advantages of Sexual Reproduction

  • Offspring are more adaptable to changing environments
  • Basis of evolution and formation of new species
  • Lower chances of inheriting a disease or weak characteristics from parent
• Disadvantages of Sexual Reproduction

  • Longer than asexual reproduction, gamete formation takes time
  • Fewer offspring, lessen chances of survival
  • High energy expenditure
  • Negative mutations and recessive genes
  • Plants need agents (wind or insects) to disperse pollen and seeds
