temperature

Cards (11)

  • TEMP --> The length of thermal growing season is important because the temperature must be high enough for survival but it must be hot enough for growth ie grass can survive at very low temps but onlys grows at 5'c
  • TEMP--> Having a frost-free period is needed for crops or blossoms from crops that are damaged by frost. ie Maize cannot be grown where late frosts are likely.
  • TEMP --> Higher temperatures increase the rate of evapotranspiration which increases the crops water requirements ( impact on evaporation)
  • TEMP --> The rate of photosynthesis and plant growth, are generally increased by higher temperatures (biochemical reactions)
  • TEMP --> Keeping an animal warm though lower temps will decrease the need for the animal to use energy/food to keep warm so more energy put into growth (thermoregulation)
  • C OF TEMP - low lying areas such as valleys bottoms are more likely to have frosts as cold dense air collects there. To solve thsi use the area for livestock or plant frost resistant crops.
  • C OF TEMP - raise temperatures intensively by using a greenhouse (solar heating) and in colder months heat the greenhouse by burning fuel (Gas) - overheating can be reduced by adding ventilation
  • C OF TEMP- to prevent flowering trees in orchards being frozen -
burning of - oil, gas or candles
dispersing cold air with large fans
  • C OF TEMP- to prvent seedling freezing
placing a thin woven plastic over the field close to the plants to t
  • C OF TEMP- to prvent seedling freezing
placing a thin woven plastic over the field close to the plants to t
  • C OF TEMP- live stock can be kept warm by
providing shelter or building that are heated
to prevent overheating in hotter months provide ventilation
