Magnetism

• Magnetism: is the force exerted by them magnets when they attract or repel each other.
• Magnetic materials: are materials that are attracted by magnets and can be magnetized. They are also called ferromagnets
• Poles are regions in a magnet where magnetic force is stronger. There are 2 poles of a magnet; north pole and south pole.
• Like poles repel, unlike poles attract.
• A bar magnet has a North Pole (N) at one end and South Pole (S) at the other end.
• Law of magnetism:

  • Like poles repel

  • North attracts South
  • North repel North
  • South attracts North
  • South repel South
• How can the magnetic field pattern can be determined:

  1. Iron fillings

  It states that any magnetic material is divided region there are atomic magnets called dipoles
