ASCH variables

• original study - 6 confederates gave unanimous wrong answer and so conformity increased by 36.8%
• non unanimous majority - pt rejected majority and supported real pt and so conformity dropped to 5%
• size of majority - with one pt and two confederates conformity is 12.8% but when this increases to three confederates conformity increased to 36.8%
• losing a partner - deserted by a partner who had previously given correct answers and so conformity decreased to 28.5%
• nature of the task - conformity increased as tasks made more difficult e.g. asch made test line more similar to comparison lines
• mode of response - when pts had to write down answers rather than call out and so conformity dropped from 36.8%
