  1. measure 1.0M acid using measuring cylinder, pour acid into conical flask
  2. set up apparatus
  3. add strip of x to flask and quickly place bung back on, at the same time start the stopwatch
  4. record volume of y has given off every 10 seconds, stop when no more gas is given off
  5. repeat steps using 1.5M acid
  6. plot graph ?

  2. dilute solution by adding water
  3. put conical flask on black cross
  4. measure dilute acid
  5. add acid to flask, at the same time swirl the flask gently and start the stopwatch
  6. look down through top of flask, stop clock when you fan no longer see the cross and record the time taken
  7. repeat steps using different volumes of solution and water, meaning different concentrations
  8. repeat steps twice more
  9. calculate mean time for each concentration
