The preparation of a DNA fragment involves the addition of extra lengths of DNA. Therefore, for the transcription of any gene to occur, RNApolymerase must bind to the DNA near the gene. This binding site is known as the promoter region.
RNApolymerase is an enzyme that is responsible for the synthesis of mRNA.
The nucleotides bases of the promoter region attach both RNApolymerase and transcription factors, so begin the process of transcription.
Another region of DNA is responsible for releasing RNApolymerase and ending transcription. This region is known as the terminator region.
