exercise

Cards (7)

  • during exercise, the body respires more
  • muscles need energy from respiration to contract
  • during exercise, breathing rate, breath volume and heart rate all increase to provide more oxygen to the muscles and remove the carbon dioxide from them
  • anaerobic respiration is less optimal as it causes the buildup of lactic acid, which is toxic
  • anaerobic respiration leads to an oxygen debt
  • an oxygen debt is the amount of extra oxygen the body need to react with the build up of lactic acid and remove it from the cells. oxygen reacts with the lactic acid to form harmless carbon dioxide and water
  • the body also copes with lactic acid by transporting it to the liver, where it is converted into glucose
