• Atmosphere is the Blanket or Envelope of gases that surrounds the Earth
• The atmosphere has five layers, which are troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere.
• Nitrogen is the most abundant gas and is essential for all living things to grow
• Oxygen is necessary for humans and animals for survival
• Air is mostly made up of Nitrogen(78%) and Oxygen(21%).
• the remaining one percent is made up of other gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone, argon, neon, helium, hydrogen, dust particles, and chlorofluorocarbons.
• the remaining 1% of gases only exist in very small amounts and are called Trace Gases
• people can determine the layers of the Atmosphere by its Temperature and by its Altitude(height)
• The first layer of the atmosphere is called Troposphere
• At the first layer of the Atmosphere, you can find Hot Air Balloons and Airplanes.
• the air in Troposphere is constantly moving and it causes Turbulence.
• The temperature of the troposphere DECREASES as the altitude INCREASES
• The second layer of the Earth's atmosphere is called Stratosphere.
• The air in Stratosphere is more stable than Troposphere.
• the temperature in Stratosphere INCREASES with its altitude.
• in the layer of the Stratosphere, you can find the OZONE LAYER and RADIOSOUND
• The OZONE LAYER protects us from harmful ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION coming from the sun.
• High energy from the UV RAYS can damage cells of living organisms and can cause SUNBURN and SKIN CANCER.
• The third layer of the Atmosphere is called MESOSPHERE
• MESOSPHERE is the coldest layer of the Atmosphere.
