  • Researchers studied the effects of peer pressure on attitudes to drugs. pts with internal locus of control showed a smaller conformity effect than those with external locus of control.
  • Researchers identified individuals with low and high scores for majority influence on Asch's tasks. the two groups did not differ in rates of locus of control. this suggests link between locus of control and resisting social influence may not be valid
  • practical applications - suggests independent behaviour can be encouraged by training programmes which increase internal locus of control. This suggests people who find it difficult to refuse unjust orders can increase their internal locus of control. As a result this research has beneficial implications for society.
  • research to suggest the link between independence and internal LOC is incorrect. modern replications of Asch's study show independence rates have a similar increase in people having internal LOC. However another researcher found people have steadily become more external. this suggests that reason people are more independent today is not related to being an internal locus of control
