  1. In men: sperm ducts are cut and tied, preventing sperm from getting into the semen

  2. In women: oviducts are closed or tied to prevent the egg from reaching the uterus and the sperm from reaching the egg
• Sterilisation is a surgical procedure
• Anaesthetic is required for the surgery
