Construction of the Periodic Table

Cards (11)

  • Periodic Table - serves as a guide in getting the information about the elements and their properties
  • Antoine Lavoisier - compiled a list of the known elements at his time, he compiled 23 elements
  • CHANGES: Electricity, Spectrometer, Industrial Revolution, and by the 1800's they had 70 elements
  • Johann Wolfgang Dobereiner - created the Law Of Triads
  • Law of Triads - a group of three elements in such a way that the average of atomic masses of 1st and 3rd elements is equal to the atomic mass of the middle one
  • John Newlands - noticed that when you arrange it by mass it repeats every 8th element which is why he named it the periodic table. He named this the Law of Octaves
  • Law of Octaves - every eighth element has similar properties when the elements are arranged in the increasing order of their atomic masses.
  • Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev - his idea was published first, he arranged the elements in order of increasing atomic mass, he is the father of the Periodic table
  • Julius Lothar Meyer - he arranged 28 elements into 6 families with similar chemical and physical properties
  • Henry Moseley - he arranged the periodic table by atomic number
  • Law of Periodic - the periodic repetition
