• Carbon Dioxide - Caused by complete combustion - It increases temperatures.
• Sulphur Dioxide - Caused by burning fuels, when sulphur reacts with oxygen - Causes Acid Rain
• Nitrogen Oxide - Caused by Nitrogen and Oxygen reacting in hot engines. - Causes Acid rain
• Explain why soot is formed when some fossil fuels are burned: incomplete combustion because of lack of oxygen.

  
• Explain how reducing the amount of sulfur in fossil fuels reduces the erosion of limestone: Sulfur reacts with oxygen to form sulfur dioxide, less sulfur dioxide emitted, less acid rain, lesss limestone reacts with acid rain.

  
• Explain why oxides of nitrogen are formed in car engines: Car engines work a very high temperatures, so nitrogen reacts with the air.
