• Rasputin posed a threat to the Tsar and autocracy, and was assassinated in 1916
• Rasputin was left alone with the Tsarina and Alexei while Nicholas went as a commander on the front lines

  People started to believe that the Tsarina's rule was being manipulated by Rasputin, who people believed to be evil
• The Tsarina got rid of popular ministers such as Polivanov as the minister of war and replaced many members of the Duma with Rasputin's allies
• Leading members of nobility began to plot to get rid of Rasputin. They were desperate and willing to kill the Tsar's closest advisor in order to avoid a revolution
