After the law commission was established, 85% of its proposals have been enacted by parliament.
Examples of where the proposals from the law commission are:
Unfair contract terms act1977
the supply of goods and services act 1982
the occupiersliability act 1984
However, more recently, only 50% of the proposals of the law commission have been enacted because of the lack of parliamentarytime and the lack of interest by parliament in technicallaw reform.
The Law Commission Act 2009 tried to deal with the issue of non-acceptance of its reports by requiring the lord chancellor to tell Parliament every year why the government has decided not to implement any of the previous year's crop of Law Commission proposals.
The commission's annual report between 2017 and 2018 showed that 12 reports awaited response from the government, who also rejected about one in six of he law commission's reports.
However, the following reforms have been made:
The fraud act 2006-simplified the law on fraud
The corporatemanslaughter and corporatehomicide act 2007- made corporations and organisations criminally liable for deaths caused by their working practices.
The criminaljustice and courts act 2015- included reform of contempt by jurors and the creation of new offences in terms of juror misconduct in relation to using the internet.
