  • B- The first part of the covenant is known as the promised land, where Abraham is called by God to go to a place known as Canaan.
    E- “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's home, and go to a land that I am going to show you."
    E-  The land of Canaan then became known as Israel. Israel was named after Abraham's grandson and is often referred to as the promised land because God promised to give the land to the descendants of Abraham
  • B- The second part of the covenant is known as the promise of the descendants. This is where God promised Abraham that he would make a great nation out of him
    E- “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing"
    E- This is when God changed Abram’s name to Abraham meaning ‘father of many nations’.
  • B- The third and last part of the Abrahamic covenant is known as the promise of blessing and redemption, where God promises to bless Abraham and all of his descendants.
    E-"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
    E- God asked Abraham to remove his foreskin and the foreskin of all Jewish boys after him. This process is known as circumcision and is a sign of the Abrahamic covenant.
  • B- The Abrahamic Covenant is an agreement between God and often each individual. A sign of this is circumcision it is seen as highly symbolic of Jewish identity and relationship with God.
    E- "You shall be circumcised through the flesh of your foreskin. This shall be the mark of the covenant between Me and you"
    E- Circumcision involves the removal of a boy's foreskin on the eighth day after birth. It is performed in front of a minyan. All males are to be circumcised and so carry a lifelong mark in their flesh of their relationship with God, a symbol of the Covenant.
  • B- God promised Abraham that he would make a great nation out of him. This promise is repeated later in the Book of Genesis, when God promises that nations and kings will descend from Abraham
    E- "I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you."
    E-This highlights the promise of abundant descendants and the rise of nations and kings from Abraham's family, fulfulling God's promise to make him the father of the great nation.
