deforestation and land use

    Cards (5)

    • bogs are areas of land that are acidic and waterlogged. plants living in bogs don't fully decay when they die, because there's not enough oxygen. partly-rotted plants gradually build up to form peat
    • deforestation is the cutting down of trees
    • peat bogs are often drained so that the area can be used for farmland
    • deforestation can cause many problems: less carbon dioxide is taken in ; more carbon dioxide is released in the atmosphere and less biodiversity happens
    • cutting down many trees means that less carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere
