    • Normally used with median, you subtract lowest score in data set from highest, ignoring other data set numbers, for those with extreme scores, it’s better to calculate interquartile range (remove top and bottom 25%)
    • Easy to calculate and indicates extent of individual differences, but easily distorted by extremes, and only uses 2 numbers no matter data set size so is a basic dispersion indicator; doesn’t indicate how representative mean is
