Make up of Tudor society

• Tudor society was hierarchical, with the king and nobility at the top and the peasantry at the bottom
• In 1509, English society was mainly rural, with majority of people living in and working in the countryside. There were few towns. Small villages and and farms were the norm, agriculture was main source of livelihood for most people.
• In 1509, English society was mainly Roman Catholic. The pope was head of the church, and religious rituals and observances were integrated into daily life.
