Amicable grant (reasons and reactions)

• One of the reasons for Amicable grant is revenge on Spain. To fund a war against them with France.
• One reason for the Amicable grant was Money might help him take France himself.
• One reason for the Amicable grant was he was already taking subsidy from the people, it was like new tax but with out parliament knowing. Risking rebellion.
• Amicable grant is people must pay 1/6 of their income in 10 weeks and priests must pay 1/3 of their income for war.
• The reaction to amicable grant was that some people were angry as they had just paid taxes so didn't want to pay more. Some people thought it was unfair because only richer people could afford to pay this much money.
• A revolt happened in Suffolk in 1525 over the Amicable grant with the 10,000 men.
• Henry could blame Wolsey. He could say he was unaware of the tax. This made Wolsey become unpopular and Henry didn’t get france this was the start of Wolsey’s downfall.
