  • Elizabeth Barton, nun of Kent.
    • she was a nun who had visions.
    • As her reputation developed so did her visions. They became more problematic when they started to attack Henry’s plans to divorce Catherine as well as Protestant ideas in general.
    • She said god approved of the pilgrims
    • She warned Henry he would die a villains death.
    • Henry had her arrested and put in the tower of London.
  • John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester.
    • He was appointed in 1504, he developed his reputation as a scholar.
    • He belived he was Catherine’s lawful wedded husband. And that the power of the pope was given by god
    • he became outspoken against the king’s effort to get a divorce
    • He was sent to the Tower of London when he couldn’t say the oath of succession.
  • Sir Thomas More.
    • Europe’s leading scholar
    • devout catholic.
    • in 1527 he called Martain Luther and his followers criminals
    • he claims protestantism threatened the soul of England
    • he resigns as lord chancellor in 1532 but Henry can’t allow that out of fear he will gain more followers.
    • In 1534 Henry asked More to say the oath of succession, More refused and was sent to the Tower of London.
    • His trial was in July 1535, he was executed under the treason act.
