reactivity series

    Cards (8)

    • the reactivity series is a series of metals that are arranged in order of reactivity
    • reactivity is determined how easily an electron is lost to form a positive ion
    • the further away the electron is from the nucleus, the less electrostatic forces of attraction between the negative electron and positive proton
    • when metals react with acid, hydrogen and salt is produced
    • the speed of reaction is indicated by the rate at which hydrogen bubbles are produced
    • the more reactive metal, the faster the reaction . metals like sodium and potassium react vigorously whereas metals like iron and zinc
    • you can investigate reactivity by temperature change or colour change
    • displacement reactions occur when a more reactive metal replaces the less reactive metal in a metal compound pushing it out
