Humanism is the idea that human beings should be at the center of everything.

Italy was in the middle of the Mediterranean, this meant it had grown rich in trade from the east, merchants transported silk and spices from china back to Italy.

It was a wealthy person who commissioned an artist to produce a work of art for them.
What were the differences between the Medieval and Renaissance art?
Medieval: Religious themes, flat and two-dimensional, lack of perspective. Renaissance: Humanism, realism, use of perspective, secular themes.

Painting onto walls while the plaster was wet.
