Cells
and
batteries
use a
chemical reaction
to produce
electricity
Eventually the
reactants
are
used up
and the
electricity
stops
Hydrogen
cells have
air
or
pure oxygen
inside
Hydrogen - oxygen cell
structure:
The
electrolyte
is the
centre
(a solution that ions can move through)
In this case the electrolyte is
Potassium Hydroxide
Either side of that there is a
negative anode
and a
positive cathode
(electrodes)
They are connected by a
wire
which allows electrons to move around from the
anode
to the
cathode
Both of the electrodes are made from
porous carbon
There is an
anode
and a
cathode
compartment, each with an
inlet
Heat leaves via these inlets
