    • What is the Internet?

The Internet is a network of interconnected networks which is worldwide.
    • What is a network?

A network is a group of devices that can communicate between each other
    • What are five characteristics linked with Internet connections
      Latency
      Bandwidth
      Range
      Strength
      Contention
    • What is latency network?

How long it takes to get a message
    • Range of network definition
How far away you can still use the network reliably
    • Strength of a network

      How consistent the network is
    • Meaning of bandwidth network
How much data can be transferred across the network
    • Contention
How many devices can use the network at once?
    • Wired methods of Internet connections
Copper - cheap and common network cable
Fibre optic - light, not electricity, higher, bandwidth, , lower latency, and greater range.
    • Mobile data
      Cellular network
      strength varies, depending on location
Lower latency and higher bandwidth using 5G
    • Bluetooth versus Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi has greater range , but both issues with contention
    • Satellites
      Large range, but high latency
    • Microwave
Require line of sight so strength depends on that. HiGn bandwidth.
    • Worldwide web
A collection of resources which are connected through hyperlinks
    • Internet is public with open access. This means anyone can request viewing a web source.
    • An Internet is an internal private network. organisations may host an internal website on the Internet so that only employees can access it.
    • An extent is an internal private network, but that partially allows access to those outside of it
    • Advantages of blogs
      share information in different formats
      unite people with similar interests
    • Disadvantages of blogs
Takes a lot of effort and time to create
      Must be updated regularly
difficult to build a customer base
posts must be engaging and correct
    • Advantages of podcasts
      Listen to when convenient
can be edited and uploaded at certain times
    • Disadvantages of podcasts
Takes time to record and edit to remove mistakes
      Hard to build an audience
    • Advantages of streamed audio and video
Users can watch as soon as connection starts
harder for users to share illegally and netflix uses privacy protection
    • Static web page
Content is pre-built and remains the same each time the page is loaded
    • Dynamic web page
Generated when they are loaded and can appear different to different users
    • Blogs
Used to share information with like-minded individuals
    • Podcasts
Downloadable audio files on a certain topic that can be listened to when convenient for the user
    • Streaming
The process of receiving video/audio data in a continuous flow, allowing the user to access the video/audio immediately
    • Social media channels
Provide a huge amount of data on users in an informal space, allowing organisations to receive feedback through user posts and comments
    • Emails
Can be used to provide information to a large amount of people almost instantly
    • Document stores
Allow users to store online files in cloud storage
    • RSS feeds
Allow users to subscribe to updates from their favourite websites
    • What is a honey pot?
A honeypot server is a system that acts as a decoy to lure adversaries/hackers and presents itself as a perfectly valid, potentially vulnerable server to entice people to attack it. these servers appear as part of the network, but they're typically isolated and monitored to prevent any harm to the system.
