What IS diffusion?
the net movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration, down the concentration gradient.
What is active transport?
the movement of substances from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration, across a partially permeable cell membrane, against the concentration gradient. It needs energy from respiration.
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration across a semi-permeable membrane.
What factors affect diffusion?
Temperature, concentration gradient & surface area.
What is a hypertonic solution?
a type of solution that has a higher concentration of solutes on the outside of a cell than on the inside of the cell
What is a hypotonic solution?
A solution with a lower solute concentration than the cell.
What is an isotonic solution? 
A solution with the same concentration of solutes as the cell.
What is a partially permeable membrane?
A membrane that allows only certain substances to pass through while blocking others.
What is plasmolysis?
Plasmolysis is the process in which a plant cell loses water and shrinks due to the movement of water out of the cell.
