  • What is Shahada?
    The first of the five pillars of Islam, relates to Tawhid, a declaration of faith.

    Is repeated during Salah, whispered to new born babies (aimed to be the first words they hear) and Muslims aim for it to be the last words they hear or say before they die.
    "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammed is the messenger of Allah"
  • What are the Five pillars of Islam?
    1)Shahadah
    2) Salah
    3) Zakah
    4) Sawm
    5) Hajj
  • "keep up regular prayers, for prayer is obligatory for the believers at prescribed times" (Surah 4: 103) --> Salah
  • "You who believe, fasting is prescribed to you... so that you can be mindful of God" (Surah 9) --> Sawm
  • "Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owned to God" (Surah 3)
    "circumambulate the Ancient House" --> Hajj
  • Why is the Shahadah important?
    it's a declaration of faith, belief in Tawhid.
    Is expressed in the six beliefs and five roots of Islam (in Tawhid, Nubuwwah and Imamah)
    Is repeated multiple times a day during Salah; is believed to be the most important pillar of Islam; first words whispered into a baby's ears, is recited on a Muslim's deathbed
    "There is no god but Allah and Muhammed is the messenger of Allah" (for Shi'as: "...and Ali is the representative of Allah"
  • Why is Hajj important?
    -fullfills the final Pillar of Zakah; allows the Hajji to live a full Muslim life
    -acts as a display of devotion to Allah and strengthens connection
    -unites Ummah
